The number of states that lean conservative has fallen from all 50 in 2010 to 39 last year.

- States becoming liberal last year were Rhode Island, California, Oregon, Maryland, and Washington.
- 35 percent of U.S. adults identified themselves as conservative in 2017, with 26 percent identifying as liberal. Thirty-five percent said they are moderate.
The 2017 survey included nearly 200,000 U.S. adults.
President Donald Trump received 62,980,160 votes in the 2016 election and earned 304 Electoral college votes to win. Democrat Hillary Clinton garnered 65,845,063 votes but earned 227 Electoral College votes.
