The conservative group Freedom Watch filed a lawsuit Monday that asks the Department of Justice to remove special counsel Robert Mueller and his staff from the Russia investigation on several grounds.

Freedom Watch founder Larry Klayman called Mueller's integrity into question in a statement.

"Robert Mueller is not a 'man of integrity' as the Washington, D.C., Democrat and Republican political establishment like to spin," Klayman said. "He is just another pol who is representing his establishment benefactors in both political parties who want to see the presidency of Donald Trump destroyed. Regardless, he must be held accountable to the law and should not be able to do as he pleases to further his and his friends', like former FBI Director James Comey's, political agenda.

"We are hopeful that the court will order [the Department of] Justice to do its job and conduct an expeditious and impartial investigation, and then order Mueller to step down as special counsel. There are others, perhaps who practice outside of the Washington, D.C., swamp, who could step in and do an honest and conflict-free investigation of so-called Russian collusion."

Mueller is a former FBI director who is now spearheading the DOJ's probe into whether there was collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.

Freedom Watch's legal complaint points out the numerous leaks that have come out regarding Mueller's investigation and the grand juries he has impaneled.

"Given the supposedly confidential nature of the Mueller Investigation, the only possible conclusion is that the information contained in the leaks is being deliberately disseminated to the media by the only persons with knowledge of such — Mr. Mueller and his staff," the document reads.

The filing called on the DOJ to "conduct an immediate, thorough investigation into [the] torrent of leaks coming from Mr. Mueller and his staff, as well as unethical conflicts of interest, pertaining to the Mueller Investigation and an order compelling Mr. Sessions and the USDOJ to order the removal of Mr. Mueller and his staff from the investigation when the investigation reveals that the leaks did originate from Mr. Mueller and his staff."
