Christian evangelist leader Franklin Graham is blasting a prayer-shaming headline and story in the New York Daily News, saying he hoped readers would "stop buying" the newspaper that's been a staunch gun control advocate.

In a Facebook post, the son of famed preacher Billy Graham, leader of his foundation and head of the charity Samaritan's Purse, decries the attitude that prayers don't do much to prevent mass shootings like the one that killed 14 people in San Bernardino, Calif.

"The New York Daily News front page touts 'God isn't fixing this' in regards to the San Bernardino mass shooting," Graham writes.

"And they have the audacity to criticize politicians who had publicly offered prayers and asked for God's comfort following the killings, calling them 'cowards who could truly end gun scourge.' Shame on them!

"I hope New Yorkers stop buying that paper! It's evident that this group is bashing the importance of prayer in order to promote their own gun control agenda," he adds.

Graham argues prayers aren't "'meaningless platitudes' as they say on their cover."

"Prayer does make a difference in heartbreaking situations like this," he writes.
