The Rev. Franklin Graham Friday backed a Christian couple and bakery owners in Texas who have received threats after refusing to bake a wedding cake for a gay couple.
"Here we go again — gays attacking Christians for what they believe," Graham said
on Facebook. He is the head of both the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and the Samaritan's Purse global charity.
"They want to force everyone to accept and condone their lifestyle, which God’s Word defines as sin, but they are blatantly intolerant of others," he added. "Freedom of conscience is being thrown out the window."
The bakers, Edie and David Delorme, own Kern’s Bake Shop in Longview, Texas. Last week, they refused to make the cake for the gay couple.
"We don’t do cakes that might conflict with our spiritual convictions," Edie Delorme
told Fox News. "It was not something personal against the two young men.
"We just need to be able to run our business in a way that honors God," she said.
The threats came after a story appeared in a local newspaper about the incident, Fox reports.
The Delormes have long not provided services that might conflict with their religious beliefs.
"We feel like if we are going to be putting our name on something, we want it to encourage Godly values," Edie Delormes told Fox.
"I applaud the Delormes for standing by their Christian convictions," Graham said on Facebook.
