Sergio Perez, a Formula One driver in Mexico, dropped a sunglasses company as a sponsor after the company made a comment about the Mexican border wall President-elect Donald Trump has proposed.
The Washington Post reports the Force India driver ended his association with the company after one month, saying, "I'll never let anyone mock my country."
The company, Hawkers Mexico, apologized, saying, "We have made a serious mistake." The company deleted the tweet, but Jalopnik captured a screengrab of it.
The tweet was in Spanish. In English, it read, "Mexicans, put on these lenses so that you do not have your eyes swollen tomorrow during the construction of the wall."
Hawkers also lost the business of Mexican baseball team Diablos Rojos del Mexico.
"Our #PassionforMexico is above all, from now on their products will no longer be available in our shop," the team said.
Trump and his supporters frequently mentioned building a wall during his campaign. Mexico's currency fell to lifetime lows after the announcement of his election, and the country reiterated that it would not pay for the wall.
