Fresh off of her own book tour, Hillary Clinton has written a glowing endorsement of the upcoming memoir of her former Senate colleague Kirsten Gillibrand of New York, reports Politico.

“The first time I shook Kirsten Gillibrand’s hand, she looked me square in the eyes and said, ‘How can I help?’ ” Clinton says in the foreword to "Off the Sidelines," which is scheduled to be released Sept. 9. “I was running for Senate in New York and Kirsten wanted to do everything she could for the campaign. But there was more to it than that. Kirsten has built her whole life around the question ‘How can I help?’ ”

Off the Sidelines is also the name of Gillibrand's political action committee.

Gillibrand was selected to fill the Senate seat left vacant when President Barack Obama picked Clinton to be his secretary of state. She won a special election in 2010 and won re-election in 2012.

The former corporate lawyer is the latest female Democratic politician to venture into the literary world. In addition to Clinton's "Hard Choices," Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren just released "A Fighting Chance." According to the Washington Post, Clinton has sold 217,000 hard copy versions of her book.

While Warren, whose name has been circulated as a potential 2016 presidential candidate, focused more heavily on policy, Gillibrand's memoir documents her experiences as a woman in the workplace and the course she charted as a politician.

"Fourteen years before Kirsten Gillibrand succeeded Hillary Rodham Clinton as senator from New York, she heard her future mentor say these life-changing words: 'Decisions are being made every day in Washington, and if you are not part of those decisions, you might not like what they decide, and you’ll have no one to blame but yourself,' " reads a description of Gillibrand's memoir on the website of her publisher, Random House.

While she is not eyeing a run for president, Gillibrand voiced support for a potential campaign by Clinton during an appearance at a Women's Rule event hosted by Politico in March.

"I think if she just runs on who she is and where she comes from and what she's about and let people get to know her, her true essence, she will win," she said.

Gillibrand came in second behind Clinton on a list of "Women We're Watching" for 2016 produced in 2013 by Emily's List, a political action committee geared toward electing women to public office.

Among the other women selected to write blurbs for Gillibrand's memoir were Huffington Post founder Arianna Huffington, former Arizona congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, feminist Gloria Steinem and legendary tennis player and activist Billie Jean King.
