The White House has stopped issuing public summaries of President Donald Trump's calls with foreign leaders, a common tradition of past administrations, per a report in CNN.
A White House official declined to comment on whether the suspension was temporary or permanent, and why the practice had stopped. Trump had two phone calls with foreign leaders in the past two weeks, but the White House did not provide a readout. Instead, a spokesperson just confirmed the calls with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu took place.
The White House has not provided a readout since mid-June, according to CNN, and the practice has scaled back since John Bolton took over as National Security Adviser, per CBS News.
Foreign nations often provide readouts, which means news outlets will have to rely on those to provide their version of what was said during the call.
Trump has been slammed over the past few weeks for his handling of interactions with foreign leaders, particularly his joint press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin where he sided with Russia over U.S. intelligence agencies regarding meddling in the 2016 presidential election.
Trump walked back his comments the following day.
