American auto giants General Motors and Ford are encouraging the United States and China to work out their differences on trade as tensions rise over tariffs.
The statements followed China's unveiling of $50 billion in tariffs it will slap on American goods, including cars, in retaliation to the Trump proposed list of $50 billion in tariffs on Chinese imports.
"We continue to believe both countries value a vibrant auto industry and understand the interdependence between the world's two largest automotive markets," a statement from GM said.
The Ford Motor Company struck a similar tone in its own statement, The Hill reported.
"We encourage both governments to work together to resolve issues between these two important economies," said Ford, The Hill reported.
President Donald Trump on Wednesday dismissed the notion the tariffs amount to a "trade war with China."
