Some of President Donald Trump's friends and advisers are telling him not to sit for an interview with special counsel Robert Mueller, CNN reported Thursday.

According to CNN, Trump has told friends he is willing to talk with Mueller to make the case there was no collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia during the 2016 election.

But the president's allies on Capitol Hill, along with supporters ranging from lawyers on the Trump team to friends, are urging Trump to avoid potential political and legal jeopardy by sitting down for an interview, CNN reported.

Still others are urging Trump to finds a way to cooperate that limits his potential legal exposure, the outlet reported.

"I think the entire Mueller probe is infected by intractable bias," Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla. told CNN. "And the president only risks some inadvertent misstatement becoming a new national narrative by doing that."

Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, suggested Trump's team answer Mueller's questions in writing, while Sen. Thom Tillis, R-N.C., said Trump's lawyers should set limits on what would be covered in the interview.

Meanwhile, Trump's legal team is weighing "every possible avenue" for the president to provide information to Mueller — from interviews to written answers, CNN reported, with one unnamed source telling the outlet the result "could end up being some sort of hybrid" and the whole thing is "under deep discussion."
