Tuesday, 29 December 2009 09:08 AM EST

Italian news reports say bomb experts have detonated a suspicious package that was found at Milan's Malpensa airport.

The ANSA and Apcom news agencies said the parcel had been abandoned in the check-in area of the terminal. ANSA said the package was equipped with a detonator and a radio receiver, although it said it wasn't clear if there were also explosives.

There were no other details.

Efforts to reach officials at Malpensa airport weren't immediately successful.
