Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., is planning to unveil a universal childcare plan this week as she continues her run for the presidency.
According to The Boston Globe, Warren will advocate for free childcare and early-learning — which would be paid for by taxing the wealthiest Americans.
"I believe in universal child care and early preschool," Warren said Sunday during a speech in Las Vegas. "Zero to 5, let's make that investment."
Warren is one of several women running for president from the Democratic Party, and all seem to be calling for some form of public preschool and universal childcare to help families save money on expenses that can sometimes be as much as a mortgage or rent payment.
Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., tweeted this last week: "The astronomical cost of childcare is a quiet crisis of our economy. It's outrageous to make parents choose between providing for their kids or caring for their kids. We need universal, high-quality, affordable childcare options for every family, period."
Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., another presidential candidate, said, according to the Globe, "We've got to have universal pre-K so that our babies can start out with a leg up. Associated with this issue is affordable child care and a national policy for that."
Warren launched her campaign in early February and called for taxing the nation's top earners with an additional tax to help pay for certain entitlement programs.
