Half of all Americans believe the economy is in excellent or good shape, according to CNBC’s All-America Economic Survey.
The number is unchanged from the fourth quarter of 2018, but down from 58 percent in the third quarter.
Here are highlights from the survey:
- 47 percent approve of President Donald Trump’s economic stewardship – down a percentage point from last quarter. 43 percent disapprove.
- 40 percent approve of the job Trump is doing as president, compared to 49 percent who do not.
- 31 percent say the economy will get better in the next year, unchanged from last quarter, but down from 36 percent in the third quarter.
- 40 percent look for their wages to increase in the next year, down 2 percentage points from last year’s high.
- 41 percent say it is a good time to invest in stocks – 3 percentage points higher than December. 30 percent say it is a bad time to invest in stocks – a drop of 6 percentage points.
- 31 percent say they had more take-home pay last year as a result of the tax cuts. The number is down from 34 percent in June.
The poll, conducted, March 18-21, surveyed 800 people. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
