“Duck Dynasty” is ending after 11 seasons as one of reality TV’s biggest hits that starred a successful duck call-making family from Louisiana, the Robertsons.
The “Duck Dynasty” family made the announcement in a video that aired after the season 11 premiere on Wednesday, according to US Magazine.
“After five years, we’ve decided as a family for this to be the final chapter of the ‘Duck Dynasty’ series,” Jase Robertson said in the video clip, per US Magazine.
Si Robertson added: “May God bless each and every one of you.”
The 11th and final season will be split into two parts with the first half running through Jan. 18 and then taking a break before coming back on March 1, Fox News noted.
The series finale will be on April 12.
“It’s still the leader in that kind of family docuseries, and a lot of the others have tried. Could it be like ‘First 48’ and go 12 years? I don’t know, and I can’t speak for the family, but I don’t think they’d see it going [five more years],” Lifetime and A&E GM Rob Sharenow told The Hollywood Reporter a year ago.
Despite the show’s success right out of the gate, the series received some negative publicity after controversial remarks surfaced from members of the family, The Hollywood Reporter noted.
Phil Robertson, who was 67 at the time, was suspended from the show in 2013 – in the fifth season – after he compared homosexuality to “bestiality” in an interview with GQ. The suspension prompted an immediate reaction from the show’s fan base. He would return to the show shortly after.
“Duck Dynasty” made its debut in 2012.
The announcement was shared on Twitter, sparking mixed reactions.
