Instead of a high-dollar music video for "God's Plan," rapper Drake gave away the nearly million-dollar budget for the shoot and the video features the smiles and tears of the recipients.
Text at the beginning of the video, released Friday, says, “The budget for this video was $996,631.90. We gave it all away. Don’t tell the label.”
The "God's Plan" video, called an "ode to Miami" by the Miami Herald, features Drake giving a college student a check for $50,000 and donating another $25,000 to a Miami high school. The musician also shot part of the video at a supermarket where he apparently paid for shoppers’ groceries.
Additionally, Drake gave cars to two young people, cash to various families, $20,000 to the Miami Fire Department, and donated to a local youth center and homeless shelter. The women there got Target gift cards the kids received toys.
On Instagram, the rapper called the video "the most important thing I have ever done in my career."
The "God's Plan" single is in its third week at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100.
Many on Twitter were touched by Drake’s gesture.
