Sen. Doug Jones, D-Ala., said Wednesday he finds it "amusing" Republicans are concerned about his former political foe Roy Moore launching another campaign in Alabama after narrowly losing in 2017 when his campaign was hammered by allegations he had sexually harassed teenagers several years ago.

"Everybody is running around like they have their hair on fire with the possibility of Roy Moore getting back in the race," Sen. Jones told CNN's "New Day." "That's their politics, not mine. I am doing my job to do what I said I would do for the people of Alabama. I am following the lead, I'm being an independent voice for Alabama, doing the things that are important."

National Republican leaders are already signaling they will try to prevent their party from nominating Moore, and Jones said he will let them deal with him and all else going on in the Republican primary.

He also said he does not have any advice for Moore, and never has had any, because "he doesn't listen to anybody anyway."

Also on Wednesday, Jones commented he is against President Donald Trump's threatened tariff on Mexican imports, because "they are a tax."

"This could be the largest tax increase that Americans have seen in two or three generations," said Jones. "Mexico is not paying for it any more than China is paying for it."

He said he is not surprised Republicans have come out against levying tariffs on Mexico, and he thinks they're "at their wit's end" with Trump over it.
