Donald Trump has gone off on President Barack Obama in the wake of this week's fierce rioting in the streets of Baltimore,
USA Today reports.
Trump, who is pondering a White House bid himself, linked Obama to the city's runaway violence in comments he posted on Twitter.
While Trump is known for his tart remarks, many took objection to his use of race in his comments.
"And your white president George Bush didn't have a positive impact on our entire country or our troops," one person responded via Twitter.
Tweeted another: "Stay classy you shameful rug wearing racebaiter."
Trump continued his outrage, however, calling on the president and other Baltimore leaders to step up in the wake of violence that continues there.
At least 15 police officers have been taken the hospital with injuries — six serious — from the rioting that has left a city in flames after the suspicious death of resident, Freddie Gray, who is black and who died after being held in police custody,
CNN reported.
The National Guard remains in place in certain areas of Baltimore, and the city remains under mandatory curfew as more than a dozen businesses have been looted, CNN said, as the mayor and other leaders called for calm.
"Too many people have spent generations building up this city for it to be destroyed by thugs who — in a very senseless way — are trying to tear down what so many have fought for," Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake said, according to CNN.
