President Donald Trump this week mocked renewable energy after confusing wind turbines with windmills and saying, “when the wind doesn’t blow, just turn off the television,” Newsweek reports.
In a speech to workers at a Lima, Ohio tank factory, Trump said that Hillary Clinton “wanted to put windmills all over the place,” in reference to her call for renewable energy.
Trump repeatedly referred to wind turbines as windmills and did a mocking impression of a person watching television with their partner.
“Let's put up some windmills. When the wind doesn't blow, just turn off the television darling, please. There's no wind, please turn off the television quickly."
He also said that wind turbines decrease property value.
"Put the windmills up, and watch the value of your house if you’re in sight of a windmill —watch the value of your house go down by 65 percent,” Trump added.
"Wonderful to have windmills. And solar’s wonderful too, but it’s not strong enough, and it’s very very expensive.”
As president, Trump has repeatedly pushed back against renewable energy sources like wind and solar while promoting the coal industry.
