Democrats have received a majority of donations from Justice Department employees over the last six years, according to campaign finance research organization OpenSecrets.org, reports The Washington Times.
DOJ workers gave $438,077 to Hillary Clinton’s Democratic presidential campaign during the 2016 election cycle, compared with $23,874 to Donald Trump’s Republican presidential campaign.
Overall during that time frame, Democrats received $819,454 from DOJ employees, compared with $126,929 for Republicans. In 2018, Democrats received $474,690 and Republicans received $126,902 from DOJ workers.
U.S. attorneys’ offices and DOJ’s local prosecutors also gave more to Democrats in 2016, OpenSecrets.org reported — $68,387 to $12,615.
The report comes as Attorney General Bill Barr comes under fire for his decision to abandon prosecutors' initial recommendation to give the veteran Republican operative Roger Stone seven to nine years in prison after he was found guilty in November of seven counts of lying to Congress, obstruction and witness tampering, prompting all four prosecutors to quit the case. Some 2,000 former DOJ employees have urged Barr to resign.
According to The Times, conservatives have dismissed the letter as representative of the liberal deep state aligned against the Trump administration.
