Dick Morris, Allen West: Obama Replaces Jobs With Entitlements

By    |   Tuesday, 18 February 2014 06:48 PM EST

President Barack Obama's economic policies have replaced employment with entitlements, political analyst Dick Morris told Newsmax TV on Tuesday.

"His goal is no longer to end unemployment," Morris told Newsmax's John Bachman on "America's Forum."

"It's to have people on entitlements so they vote for the Democratic Party to sustain those entitlements.

"And those folks who have given up looking for work... those folks don't care about whether jobs are created. They just want to know if the check's coming each month," he told Bachman.

Morris, who served as an aide to President Bill Clinton, and former U.S. Rep. Allen West discussed Obama's economic agenda in light of Monday's fifth anniversary of the $800 billion stimulus package passed by Congress and signed by the president to revitalize the economy.

Both charged that the stimulus turned out to be a huge waste of public money.

"There is no recovery, there never was a recovery," Morris said. "But he's done a very good job of talking over that and trying to let people to believe that there is a recovery."

West, a retired U.S. Army lieutenant colonel and a former congressman from Florida, said that a complicit mainstream media has not held Obama or the Democrats responsible for a failing economy.

"What I would look at is on the Sunday before the fifth anniversary of the stimulus, what were all the Democrats talking about on the summit talk shows? They were talking about climate change," West said. "They weren't talking about the recovery. They weren't talking about a success of the stimulus.

"As a matter of fact, the president wasn't even in Washington, D.C., on Monday on this fifth anniversary. He was out playing golf."

Obama spent the President's Day Weekend on the links in Palm Springs.

"If this was such a success, there would have been a big hoopla. There would have been a staged event with people as backdrops — and he would have been talking a lot of great things.

"They're running away from this because they know it has not been successful," West said. "They're asking for an extension of unemployment benefits. If the economy is recovering, you don't do that."

Morris noted how the administration calculated the monthly jobless rate, which stood at 6.6 percent in January.

"The fact that it's calculated on those looking for work and does not count 10 million people who have given up looking for work under this administration means that the media can focus on the reduction — and now it's 6.6 percent. It used to be 10. Wow, that's a recovery.

"In fact, there's no recovery; it's just that more and more people have given up looking for work."
