Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., says he is running for re-election in 2020.

Durbin made his remarks during a Thursday interview on CNN’s “New Day.”

Asked if he was seeking another term, Durbin replied: “I am.”

But he cautioned with a smile: “Don’t take that as a formal announcement. What I’ve said is, I’m raising money and trying to lose a few pounds – and that’s a good indicator that I’m looking forward to 2020.”

The Hill noted: Durbin has won re-election by double digits since entering the Senate in 1997.
