RNC Spending Six Figures Aimed at Dems' 'Radical' Election Reform Bill

The Republican National Committee plans to spend six figures on an ad blitz slamming a major election reform bill being pushed by Democrats, reports Fox News.

The ads will air in Arizona, Georgia, Nevada and New Hampshire, on local and national news sites, Facebook and Google starting next week.

One ad says, “Radical Democrats are trying to take over your elections.” Another reads “Democrats want to spend your tax dollars to fund liberal candidates’ elections. We can’t let this happen!”

The “For the People Act,” which has passed the House, contains several provisions Republicans say will repeal all commonsense state integrity laws for elections, including voter ID laws.

“Democrats are attempting an egregious power grab through H.R. 1 that will fundamentally alter our entire election system and dismantle the integrity of the vote, but we will not let them get away with it. The RNC is using every tool available to counter Democrats’ blatant hijacking of our election system that would give unfettered power to unelected D.C. bureaucrats and trample on free speech,” RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said in a statement.

The bill includes provisions to: automatically register eligible voters, create public financing for congressional campaigns, restrict gerrymandering of congressional districts, amend the Constitution to overturn Citizens United, the 2010 Supreme Court decision that allowed unlimited election spending by corporations and unions, require at least 15 days of early voting in federal elections, restore voting rights to those who have been convicted of felonies and have completed their sentences, compel Twitter and Facebook to disclose the source of money for political ads on the social media platforms, require the president and vice president, and candidates for those offices, to disclose 10 years of their tax returns, institute an ethics code for the Supreme Court that would apply to justices with an eye toward preventing presidential conflicts of interest, ban congressional lawmakers from serving on corporate boards and top lawmakers from using taxpayer money to pay employment discrimination settlements in cases stemming from their actions.

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, last week called the bill the “single most dangerous bill being considered by Congress right now.”

"It is designed to entrench corrupt politicians in office and keep Democrats in power for 100 years." Cruz said. "It has the federal government take over all elections. It repeals virtually all of the commonsense state integrity laws.”
