The Democrats would be in a tough spot if they continue to dig deep into President Donald Trump's background and Trump himself is cleared of any wrongdoing by the Department of Justice, Bill O'Reilly told Newsmax TV.
During an appearance on Monday's "The Wayne Allyn Root Show," O'Reilly said the Democratic Party could be playing with fire should special counsel Robert Mueller declare Trump did not collude with the Russians to win the 2016 election.
"Once the Mueller report comes out and [if Trump is cleared], then the Democrats find themselves in a very difficult position because most of Americans will go, 'All right, we've had enough, $30 million in two years-plus isn't enough, and you people still won't even accept what your own guy, Mueller, is putting out there,'" O'Reilly said.
"So, that puts the Democratic Party in real jeopardy."
If things play out that way and Rep. Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., continues to pursue Trump as chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, O'Reilly thinks the best course of action for the White House would be to stall and claim executive privilege instead of complying with Nadler's request for documents.
"'We're not gonna cooperate with these hearings, we don't feel that they're fair, we feel they're politically motivated, I'm going to say executive privilege, take it to court. We're not gonna give you anything,'" O'Reilly mimicked Trump as saying.
"'We'll give you a stick of gum and we might give you directions to Maryland, we're not gonna give you anything else.' That's what I would do."
