President Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton are guests at a Democratic National Committee fundraiser next month — presenting a possible test of whether the big chill is easing after Clinton's biting criticism of the president's foreign policy.
The former secretary of State — and potential 2016 presidential candidate — will give a luncheon speech at the DNC's Women's Leadership Forum Sept. 19, with Obama speaking later that day, according to invitations to the event.
The forum starts Sept. 18 with a welcome reception hosted by first lady Michelle Obama and Jill Biden — and is designed to attract more women to the Democratic party with discussions, networking opportunities and access to women leaders. Tickets will be $25 for students — and up to $32,400 a pop for deep-pocket donors.
The pair haven't mingled publicly since Clinton
took a shot at Obama during an interview in early August in which she said: "Great nations need organizing principles, and 'don't do stupid stuff' is not an organizing principle."
The reference was to a phrase the president has used to describe his approach to world affairs.
Clinton
reportedly called the president after the interview, and the pair were supposedly going to hug-it-out Aug. 13
at a private party on Martha's Vineyard, but Clinton biographer Ed Klein called the event
"a tense, awkward freeze-a-thon."
Klein said Clinton and Obama sat near one another but didn't speak, and went out of their way in general to avoid one another.
