Rep. Madeleine Dean, a Democratic member of the House Judiciary Committee, Wednesday rejected arguments that the fiery hearing with President Donald Trump's former campaign manager Corey Lewandowski was a waste of time, as a great deal about the president's actions was revealed.
"We saw yesterday a failed foot soldier of a president in search of obstruction of justice, obstruction of us and Congress, and our constitutional obligations to oversee the corruption of a president," Dean, D-Pa., told CNN's "New Day." "It's just a total cover-up, and Mr. Lewandowski is just a small player in that."
She said she also thought that it was "very significant" that Lewandowski testified that special counsel Robert Mueller's report was "absolutely right" when it said Trump had told him to ask former Attorney General to unrecuse himself from the Russia investigation.
Dean also disagreed with those who would say that the hearing, and Lewandowski argumentative behavior, did not look good for Democrats seeking Trump's impeachment.
"It did not look good for Mr. Lewandowski and it did not look good for this president," said Dean. "The president is involved in a serious attempt to cover up. We had a witness there yesterday who never worked in the White House, never worked for the administration, and yet was claiming privilege. He was flanked by White House attorneys. He said he never read the (Mueller) report. It just looked terrible for Mr. Lewandowski."
But even more, the hearing looked bad for Trump, said Dean.
"Article 3 of the (Richard) Nixon articles of impeachment was the very thing that happened yesterday, obstruction of Congress," said Dean. "The president is showing himself to being in violation of his constitutional duties."
