President Barack Obama needs to heed "crisis management rule 101" and acknowledge that he "messed up" in saying people could keep private health insurance they like under Obamacare, Lanny Davis, who served as special counsel to former President Bill Clinton, said Thursday.
"President Obama, and all Democrats, should say, 'We support this act . . . We messed up in explaining it," Davis told "Fox & Friends."

"It wasn't explained well. Now, we just have to acknowledge that — which is crisis management rule 101 — and fix it," he added.
The effort to oversimplify the message about Obamacare was a reason why the president made statements that led people to believe they could keep their current health insurance, Davis said. Millions of people have reported being dropped by their medical coverage, due to conflicts with the new health law's mandates.
"We oversimplified. We should have told people, 'You might have to change plans to increase your coverage, and that's going to cost you more.' That was a mistake. We need to fix it," he said.
Democrats running for office, particularly in states that traditionally lean Republican, will be hurt if the president doesn't correct the issue, Davis maintained.
"He's hurting Democrats," he said. "We have Democrats in red states. We've got to fix this problem. We've got to acknowledge that it needs to be fixed."
