President Barack Obama should give the newly sworn-in Congress a chance to work on the issues he wants before threatening vetoes or executive actions, says former New York Sen. Alfonse D'Amato.
"I would hope that the president would stop trying to show his manhood by threatening vetoes," the longtime Republican senator told John Catsimitidis in an interview aired Sunday on "The Cats Roundtable"

D'Amato also criticized Obama's handling of the Islamic State (ISIS) situation, saying the president's failures will force deployment of hundreds of thousands of troops.
"Do you have to see more terrorist attacks in the United States to wake us up?" he said.
D'Amato was no less critical of former Presidential Envoy to Iraq Paul Bremer, who served in the Bush administration. D'Amato called Bremer a "jackass" for is sending home 400,000 Sunnis "with guns and no jobs" after the war.
"After we won the war we lost it," he said.
D'Amato also said Senate Republicans should approve New York's U.S. Attorney Loretta Lynch for U.S. Attorney General.
"Loretta Lynch has done an outstanding job. And the fact that she may or may not be a Democrat or a Republican should not in any way impede or reflect on her ability to be an outstanding attorney general," he said.
