A new crush of Cuban refugees is expected to swarm the United States border in Texas over the next several days.

KRGV-TV reports that at least 7,000 men, women and children will seek entry through the Port of Entry in Laredo and at the Hidalgo International Bridge in Hidalgo.

Rep. Henry Cuellar, a Texas Democrat representing the Lone Star State's 28th congressional district, said Cuban refugees have started coming into Laredo from Central America through Mexico to the border.

Border officials insist they are ready for the massive influx.

"U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is prepared to process the expected increase in Cubans applying for admission at South Texas ports of entry," CBP told KRGV.

"CBP officers will process Cuban nationals in accordance with established procedures as expeditiously as possible while maintaining requirements and standards for individuals in our care."

One refugee, Giovanni Acosta, told the television station:

"In Cuba, there's nothing. There's no freedom. We came from Cuba because the pressure that we have there.... Like all the Cubans did. I came from Ecuador. I walked for 27 days on the road."
