Attorney General Jeff Sessions is calling for a more aggressive approach to cases of leaked classified information – and intends to put "some people in jail," Politico reported.

The tough talk came Thursday during a joint border-security visit in El Paso, Texas, with Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly, the news outlet reported.

"Whenever a case can be made, we will seek to put some people in jail," Sessions said.

"We are going to step up our efforts and already are stepping up our efforts on all leaks," he added.

"This is a matter that has gone beyond anything I'm aware of. We have professionals who have been in the security business of the United States for many years that are shocked by the number of leaks. Some of them are quite serious. So, yes it is a priority."

The approach comes as it was reported the United States will seek the arrest of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange for his 2010 leaks of classified data stolen by former U.S. army intelligence analyst, Chelsea Manning.
