Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., on Tuesday deferred to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., on impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump, The Hill reports.
"I believe Speaker Pelosi is handling this appropriately," the Senate Democratic leader told reporters on Capitol Hill.
Pelosi has rejected moving forward with proceedings until House committees are finished with investigating Trump, his business dealings and his administration.
Sen. Patty Murray, the No. 2 Senate Democrat, and Sen. Debbie Stabenow, the No. 4 Senate Democrat, over the weekend endorsed a House impeachment inquiry following special counsel Robert Mueller's testimony before Congress.
"The Mueller report is extremely serious. Obstruction of justice is extremely serious. And it's worthy of an inquiry. Nobody is above the law. The president's not above the law," Michigan lawmaker Stabenow said in an interview.
"It's not just about this president, but it's about what bar we have for presidents in the future about obstruction of justice. And secondly, I am deeply concerned . . . that Russia did interfere in our elections. This president has flouted that," Murray told reporters Monday. "The House should begin proceedings, we'll see where that leads."
