White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders on Tuesday celebrated Politico's story CNN would not attend this year's White House Christmas party.
CNN, consistently under fire from Donald Trump for what the president calls "fake news," told Politico on Tuesday it would not be in attendance.
"CNN will not be attending this year's White House Christmas party," a CNN spokesperson said. "In light of the president's continued attacks on freedom of the press and CNN, we do not feel it is appropriate to celebrate with him as his invited guests. We will send a White House reporting team to the event and report on it if news warrants."
Trump last weekend in a tweet said, "Fox News is much more important in the United States than CNN but outside of the U.S., CNN International is still a major source of (Fake) news, and they represent our Nation to the WORLD very poorly. The outside world does not see the truth from them!"
His latest social media criticism of the company comes following the Justice Department's announcement it would seek to block the AT&T-Time Warner merger because the agency says it would hurt competition and consumers. Time Warner owns CNN.
CNN fired back at Trump, saying it was not the company's job to "represent the U.S. to the world."
The White House Christmas party is scheduled for Friday at 2 p.m. ET.
