New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is calling for a larger U.S. military and a boost in national defense spending, according to excerpts of his foreign policy speech Monday in New Hampshire. Christie is also defending the government's intelligence-collection efforts.
The likely 2016 Republican presidential contender criticizes President Barack Obama's handling of the rise of the Islamic State group and the emerging nuclear deal with Iran. He calls for building stronger alliances around the world.
Excerpts of the speech were released by Christie's political action committee.
It's Christie's third speech in the early-voting state as he lays the groundwork for an expected campaign. Previous speeches focused on overhauling Social Security and lowering taxes on individuals and corporations.
