The mainstream media has it in for New Jersey GOP Gov. Chris Christie, says former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani.
Christie received criticism after his Tuesday-night keynote address to the Republican National Convention for spending too much time talking about himself and not enough focusing on presidential nominee Mitt Romney.
“They don’t like his message, they don’t like what he’s trying to do, and they certainly don’t want to see [Mitt] Romney win,” Giuliani said of the liberal media Wednesday on Fox News,
Politico reports.
“So they gotta tear down something. They couldn’t really tear down Mrs. Romney’s speech. First of all, it would have been insensitive to attack her. Second, she gave a great speech and it would have been very hard to attack her. So they pick on Chris, who is a target.”
Left-wing journalists simply areunwilling to give Christie a chance, Giuliani said.
“I don’t think Chris could win, at least not with the liberal media,” he said. “I think no matter what, if he had gone up and given a speech which would have been the more traditional keynote speech to rip Obama apart, then he’d be a mean New Jersey bully.”
Giuliani had only praise for Christie’s address, a “very measured, very philosophical speech,” the 2008 presidential candidate said. “It was humorous, it was inspiring, it laid out a very good theme for this convention that I think they’re going to follow up on. He is being criticized for not mentioning Romney for the first 16 minutes. Well, don’t you think the Romney people read the speech beforehand?”
