Poll: Christie Needs Weight Watchers Before White House

By    |   Thursday, 13 December 2012 01:36 PM EST

Get thee to Weight Watchers, Chris Christie!

That’s the consensus of a new poll that asked: Is the New Jersey governor too heavy to run for president?

According to the poll, conducted by NJ.com, 477 of those who voted said Christie needs to be healthier to run for national office.

Another 331 respondents said the Garden State’s top politician’s beefy frame was not an issue.

Christie was forced to discuss his mountain-sized figure Wednesday night when Barbara Walters raised the subject on her “10 Most Fascinating People’’ special on ABC, asking him if was too heavy to be the nation’s commander-in-chief.

“That’s ridiculous. I mean, that’s ridiculous. I don’t know what the basis for that is,’’ Christie shot back.

“I think people watched me for the last number of weeks during Hurricane Sandy doing 18-hour days and getting back up the next day and still being just as effective on the job. So I don’t think that will be a problem.’’

Those who voted for and against Christie needing to go on a diet compromise about 63 percent of the total poll.

Interestingly though , another 474 who voted in the poll, about 37 percent, opted for a third option —that the question itself is tinged by sexism because if a male reporter asked a female candidate if she needed to lose weight, “he’d be crucified.’’
