Two former allies of New Jersey Governor Chris Christie who were convicted of joining a political plot to create crippling traffic near the George Washington Bridge should serve about three years in prison, U.S. prosecutors told a judge.

Prosecutors urged a federal judge in Newark to send a strong message against public corruption by sentencing Bill Baroni and Bridget Anne Kelly to prison. Baroni and Kelly were convicted of using gridlock near the bridge to punish a New Jersey mayor who failed to endorse the re-election of Christie in 2013.
