Beginning next month, Chick-fil-A will offer pre-measured meal kits to allow customers to take home and prepare fresh meals from their own kitchens.
Chick-fil-A announced it will test the service starting Aug. 27 at approximately 150 Atlanta-area locations and offer five different "Mealtime Kits": chicken parmesan, chicken enchiladas, Dijon chicken, pan-roasted chicken, and chicken flatbread. However, each location will offer only two at any one time.
Chick-fil-A chef and Atlanta restaurateur Stuart Tracy, who developed the recipes, said the flatbread concept was one of the more unique recipes created for the kits.
“We wanted this to be something someone could easily make at home for dinner or take to a party. The flavors in this flatbread are through the roof,” Tracy said in a statement.
Each meal kit will serve two people and will cost the consumer $15.89.
Unlike similar services offered by companies such as Blue Apron or Home Chef, Chick-fil-A customers can pick up their meal kit choices in person at a Chick-fil-A location. The company, known for its antibiotic-free chicken, is the first fast-food chain to offer such a service.
“We know our guests are busier than ever and need a variety of convenient dinner options," Michael Patrick, an innovation program lead at Chick-fil-A who is leading the Mealtime Kits launch, said in a statement. "We’re excited to offer Mealtime Kits as a new way for us to serve our guests by providing fresh ingredients to enjoy a delicious meal at home.”
Meal kits have become a growing trend. Costco has begun testing its own version, in partnership with Blue Apron, in 15 locations. In a similar partnership, HelloFresh will be marketing its meal kits at Stop & Shop and Giant Food.
Walmart, meanwhile, has developed its own meal kit program in-house.
Between its launch date and November, Chick-fil-A's meal kit program will be in its testing phase in order to gauge customer interest.
The concept got good reviews on Twitter.
