Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez may have less than a year to live and his condition is "very serious," reports the
Florida Center for Investigative Reporting citing a memo released by WikiLeaks.
The intelligence memo from December 2011 says Chavez' cancer started near the prostate gland, and spread to the colon and the lymph nodes, to the bone marrow and the spine. It says a team of Russian doctors evaluated the case and believe Chavez' cancer is "very serious." The doctors also blame Cuban doctors on the team for mistakes in attempting to remove a tumor.
The memo, according to the Center, is one of five million emails published by Wiki along with 20 news organizations round the world.
The memo says the Venezuelan strongman has both Russian and Cuban doctors on his team, and they often squabble. Chavez reportedly is not a good patient, fails to listen to his doctors and stops treament when he has public appearances, according to the report.
The memo jokes: “Only Chavez can get the most politicized medical team in the world.”
Chavez last week returned to Havana for more surgery.
