McMorris Rodgers: 'Better Way' Aims to Restore Representative Government

Many Americans are worried about their safety and security in the wake of the Orlando shootings, and the House GOP's "Better Way" plan provides a way to participate with the government and its approach to many issues, including national security, House Republican House Republican Conference Chairwoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers said Saturday.

“Let’s give people a voice through their elected representatives so a 19th century institution can actually solve 21st century problems,” said McMorris Rodgers in the GOP's weekly address. "Only we, the people, know the way to achieve our dreams — not the government.”

In the United States, said McMorris Rodgers, Americans should have the confidence to live free lives, while knowing they are safe from terrorism, so they can pursue their dreams.

"We’re on edge as ISIS makes the world more dangerous," she said. "Parents worry about their children’s future. Seniors worry about retirement. Students worry about finding good jobs to pay back their debt."

And meanwhile, families can't understand Washington's "tangled web of taxes, one-size-fits-all regulations, and arbitrary rules."

The goal of the Better Way initiative is to reaffirm that "government by the people, speaking through their elected representatives, is the best way to keep us free and safe; protect our liberty; and make sure the promise of America exists for the next generation," she continued.

The Congresswoman told voters "speaking through their elected representatives, is the best way to keep us free and safe."

And restoring Americans' voice in Congress is not a Republican or Democratic issue or just part of the Better Way agenda, she said; "it's the most important part."

"Let’s give people a voice through their elected representatives so a 19th century institution can actually solve 21st century problems," McMorris Rodgers said, encouraging listeners to learn more about the plan online.
