Former Trump campaign aide Carter Page told Newsmax TV on Tuesday that he thinks Congress should pass a law that would allow him and other Americans who have been victimized by the government to collect reparations.
"It's based on the concept which was signed into law by President Ronald Reagan in 1988," Page told "The Howie Carr Show." "I'm concerned about so many lives that were destroyed through this complete hoax. It really wasn't just me. It was all the way up to President [Donald] Trump, going back to his candidacy."
Page, who was surveilled during the 2016 campaign by FISA warrants obtained by the FBI in its efforts to dig up connections between then-candidate Trump and Russia, explained that in 1988, Reagan signed the Civil Liberties Act of 1988, which was related to the internment of various innocent Americans.
"I'm calling for the Civil Liberties act of 2020, which will provide compensation to the so many lives that were damaged," Page told Carr, adding, "I'm calling for reparations."
Page, who has written a book about his experiences and those of others caught up in the investigation, said he thinks the legislation is the way to go, rather than further investigations.
"I think Attorney General [William] Barr is a great patriot, and you know he wants to do the right thing," Page said. "But he is surrounded. He has a similar situation at the Department of Justice that President Trump has at the White House. They're both individuals who try to do the right thing, but they're surrounded by hundreds or thousands of Deep Staters who are trying to undermine their agenda, trying to undermine them doing the right thing."
Legislation, however, would "streamline things," Page said.
"Congress has its own set of issues; rather than talking, going on TV," he continued, "Congress has the power of the purse, so they can pass legislation and take action that will get justice for so many Americans whose lives were damaged."
