Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp will attend the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee in July as he plans a Fall fundraising tour in support of down-ballot Republicans, Politico reports.
Kemp will not speak at the convention, according to Politico. However, he is building up his profile amid considering a run for the Senate in 2026 or the White House in 2028, according to the report. He recently hired the former deputy campaign manager to former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and is planning a multi-state tour to help raise money for his super PAC and various GOP candidates.
Longtime Republican strategist Whit Ayres told Politico, “Kemp is obviously a very savvy and adept politician. He’s one of the very few Republican elected officials who went up against a Trump-endorsed primary challenger and came out smelling like a rose.”
Ayres added Kemp has proven “effective and popular” as governor, “and generally, doing a good job in your current position is the best calling card for a future position.”
Kevin McLaughlin, a GOP strategist and adviser to Kemp’s super PAC, told Politico, “What he has done over the last few years is he successfully navigated tricky waters.”
He pointed to Kemp’s polling, including an internal survey conducted by Signal, that found his favorability in Georgia stands at 58%, a sign that the governor “has put himself in a position that’s really enviable for a lot of Republicans.”
