Fifty-six percent of likely U.S. voters oppose any impeachment effort against Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, according to a Rasmussen Reports poll released Monday.
Just 30 percent of voters think House Democrats should attempt to impeach Kavanaugh, whose politically fraught confirmation process was extended by an FBI probe into sexual misconduct allegations against him.
The poll comes after a report published in The Federalist said House Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., had revealed plans for House Democrats to investigate and impeach Kavanaugh for alleged perjury.
Nadler disputed the claims Sunday during an appearance on CNN's "State of the Union."
"I'm not going to comment on a private conversation with a friend," Nadler said, referring to the report.
Speculation is rampant over whether Democrats will use their power to pursue impeachment against the president and Kavanaugh after the party reclaimed control of the House in the midterm elections.
Trump last week warned Democrats of wasting taxpayer money on impeachment efforts.
"If the Democrats think they are going to waste Taxpayer Money investigating us at the House level, then we will likewise be forced to consider investigating them for all of the leaks of Classified Information, and much else, at the Senate level," Trump tweeted Nov. 7. "Two can play that game!"
Rasmussen Reports polled 1,000 likely voters with a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
