President Barack Obama will succeed in his withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan because "that is what he wants to do," says former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton.
After the U.S. military moves out, "Taliban and al-Qaida will take control again, and it will again be a base for terrorist operations," Bolton said Wednesday on Fox News Channel's
"On the Record with Greta Van Susteren."
Bolton was discussing the new book due out soon by former Defense Secretary Robert Gates,
"Duty: Memoir of a Secretary at War." Gates says in the book that Obama never had faith in his own Afghan strategy.
Bolton said it's clear Obama never believed in the strategy when he announced a 30,000-member troop surge in the same speech in which he announced the date troops would be withdrawn.
Retired Gen. Wesley Clark, a former Democratic presidential candidate, told Fox News Channel's
"The Kelly File" that Obama may have thought the surge was the best of a lot of bad choices.
Meanwhile, Bill O'Reilly, in his opening segment on Fox News Channel's
"The O'Reilly Factor," said Obama doesn't have "the will to win" or "a killer instinct."
