House Speaker John Boehner has criticized President Barack Obama for scheduling a series of speeches on jobs and the economy, saying they will be hollow and bereft of new ideas, like an "Easter egg with no candy in it."
Speaking on the House floor, the Ohio Republican pointed out that the White House had already admitted that the three speeches, the first of which is scheduled for Wednesday in Illinois, won't contain new proposals for job creation,
The Hill reported.
"The president himself said it isn't going to change any minds," Boehner said. "So what exactly will change? What's the point? What's it going to accomplish?
"You probably got the answer — nothing. It's a hollow shell. It's an Easter egg with no candy in it," Boehner said, according to the Hill.
Boehner said that if the president wants the economy to grow, he should approve the Keystone XL pipeline and delay parts of Obamacare from going into effect.
He added, "Americans aren't asking 'where are the speeches?' They're asking 'where are the jobs?'"
