Journalist Bob Woodward said Tuesday he finds President Donald Trump to be the "most isolated" of the nine presidents he's written about during his career.
"There's a self-validation when you get to the presidency for anyone," Woodward, whose book Fear describes chaos in the Trump administration, commented during an MSNBC "Morning Joe" panel discussion. "For someone like him with a big ego, for someone like him who never held elective office, (it's like) 'hey, I got here, I did it, I'm the man, my ideas are not just important but are going to dominate.'"
As a result, Trump has become the "most isolated" of the president's he's seen, Woodward maintained.
“It’s the ideas he has, and the behavior, and I think in this moment it’s worth asking why is he like this?" said Woodward. "Why does he do this? Why is he immune from other ideas and pressures?"
Woodward further referred to Trump as the "nation's talk show host, not just publicly but privately within the White House."
"He's doing things, talking to people and watching television and providing his own commentary," said Woodward, while responding to an Axios report about the president's schedule.
He also said Trump often refuses to listen to his advisers and he doesn't "know what his self-interest is."
"The saddest part of this is when you look at what the job of the president is to figure out what the next stage of good is for a majority of people in the country, it never comes up in the internal debates," said Woodward.
