Former vice president Joe Biden leads the Democratic field among African-American voters in the 2020 election, in which financial issues may play a central role, Politico reports.
The Black Economic Alliance commissioned the survey, conducted by the Democratic polling firms Hart Research and Brossard Research, and found about three out of four respondents are enthusiastic about Biden, with Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., coming in second. Both beat the most prominent black candidates, Sens. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., and Cory Booker, D-N.J., who about half of the respondents were enthusiastic about.

- Sanders: 64%.
- Harris: 53%.

The poll also found African-American voters were equally split on three issues being the most important: affording healthcare and college, and the creation of more jobs with benefits. Although healthcare has routinely appeared as the most important issue to Democratic voters, African Americans reported feeling they, in particular, face "significant economic challenges in their own communities," according to the memo's authors, Guy Molyneux, Mario Brossard and Corrie Hunt.
"Black Americans view the economic conditions in the United States as significantly worse for Black communities than for the country overall," they wrote. "Fully 72% of Black Americans say they are dissatisfied with the economic situation for Black Americans today (including 37% very dissatisfied), compared with 57 percent who are dissatisfied with the state of the U.S. economy in general."
