Billy Jack Haynes, a former professional wrestling star, has been arrested in Portland, Oregon, for allegedly murdering his wife, Janette Becraft, the New York Post reported Sunday.
According to the Post, before the arrest, Haynes was engaged in a stand-off with police at his home.
"He is in police custody at a local hospital while he is being treated for a medical condition unrelated to the homicide or his contact with law enforcement," police said following his arrest. "Once he is released from the hospital, which may be days from now, he is expected to be booked into jail. Haynes' charges will be released once he is booked."
Speaking on Becraft's death, neighbor Brelynn Matthieu lamented to KOIN, "It's just a huge tragedy. I was pretty decently close to both of them and loved them very much. It's a really sad day, all around."
The victim's daughter, Kim Becraft, also shared her grief, writing on social media: "You are now flying with the angels... Love you Mom."
Haynes, notable for his 1980s wrestling career and subsequent legal issues with World Wrestling Entertainment, is anticipated to face murder charges.
