A representative for Billy Bush says the former "Today" show host and wife Sydney Davis have separated after almost 20 years of marriage.
The rep told People the couple had separated “for the moment to evaluate their life together” and that “they love each other and their children deeply and are committed to a bright future.”
Bush’s lawyer Marshall Grossman called the separation a “short-term break,” People reported. The couple has three daughters ages 19, 16, and 12.
The break comes 11 months after Bush was fired from the "Today" show after a recorded conversation between him and then-presidential nominee Donald Trump surfaced in October 2016 just before the presidential election. The recording revealed Bush laughing at lewd comments Trump made about women on an "Access Hollywood" bus en route to the set of "Days of Our Lives," where Trump was shooting a cameo appearance.
Page Six reported at the time that an NBC insider told them Davis was "furious about the tape," and that Bush never apologized for the embarrassment of its contents. "They are having marriage problems," the insider told Page Six.
Bush deeply regrets his actions on the tape, telling The Hollywood Reporter earlier this year, "I wish I had changed the topic. [Trump] liked TV and competition. I could’ve said, 'Can you believe the ratings on whatever?' But I didn’t have the strength of character to do it."
Bush is the cousin of former President George W. Bush and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush.
