Bill O'Reilly: Holder Should Have Been Axed 'a Long Time Ago'

By    |   Thursday, 10 April 2014 01:15 PM EDT

Attorney General Eric Holder is ineffective in his role as the nation's chief law enforcement officer and should have been "fired a long time ago," charged talk show host Bill O'Reilly.

Holder has been in the spotlight since a fiery exchange Tuesday with House Judiciary Committee member Louie Gohmert, a Texas Republican. Holder was questioned about his failure to comply with House requests for documents on issues under investigation.

"He should have been fired a long time ago," O'Reilly told "Fox & Friends" Thursday. "He is not an effective law enforcement agent."

In a speech Wednesday to the National Action Network, Holder implied race was at the heart of the probes by Congress. O'Reilly explained that Holder's implications about race rang "hollow."

"Do you think that the House committee called him in and said, 'Let's get the black guy today?' Is that what they did? Does anybody believe that?" O'Reilly asked.

Holder's "abysmal" record was at issue, not race, O'Reilly indicated. He described Holder as "failing as an attorney general."

"You didn't find out what happened in Benghazi. You didn't find out what happened with Fast and Furious. You didn't find out what happened with the IRS. Years go by.

"There comes a point where honest Americans have to say, 'Enough. Enough.' And that's where we are now with Eric Holder," he said.

O'Reilly called Holder a "politician masquerading" as a law enforcement agent. He said the situation was "embarrassing," and maintained the problems spilled over into other government agencies.

"The FBI is looking bad, I think, primarily because of him," O'Reilly said.
