Bill O'Reilly to Newsmax: Americans Likely to See 'Significant' Raises With Tax Reform

Bill O'Reilly believes the odds are in favor of Americans significant wage increases as a result of this week's passage of GOP tax reform legislation.

"I would say the odds are about 60/40 that will happen," O'Reilly, the veteran journalist and former host of TV's "The O'Reilly Factor," said Thursday to John Bachman on Newsmax TV's "Newsmax Now."

"But you know unforeseen circumstances, war, terrorist attacks, Donald Trump self-destructing — all of those things can inhibit economies. But right now the stock market is reflecting the optimism of the business community.

"So I think if you are going to go to Vegas and bet that the GNP will go over 4 percent you'd probably get really good odds that that might happen."

This week, the House and Senate approved a sweeping tax reform bill that dramatically lowers the corporate tax rate and includes tax breaks for a majority of Americans. President Donald Trump is expected to sign the legislation into law in the New Year.

"If the overall bill works as the Republicans pray, not just hope, but pray it does, then the whole economy will be re-lifted," O'Reilly said.

So, in addition to the tax savings you would assume that working Americans will get a raise from their companies because the companies will be expanding and they'll need more workers and the competition for workers drive salaries up.

"That is basically what the Republicans are hoping for, that this time next year the expansion of the U.S. economy be between 4 and 5 percent."

O'Reilly added that the goal puts pressure on businesses to "keep their best employees and to attract new ones because everybody is competing in a capitalistic society so then wages go up. That's the key to this whole tax reform."

He said he expects the media will likely focus on negative aspects of the tax bill.

"You have a press that's 90 percent negative toward anything that Donald Trump does so the tax reform will be included in that hopper," O'Reilly told Bachman.

Ditto for Democrats.

"What I'm real interested in is, OK, if you're a Democrat and you're trashing the GOP tax reform plan, what do you got to put in its place? Obama economics? Is that what you want?'' O'Reilly said.

"You want eight more years of Obama where everything was flat and nothing happened? Is that what you want? I haven't heard any of them say 'hey I have a better idea and here it is.' None of them … The Democrats have nothing, nothing that would counter this tax reform. That's a fact, Jack."

O'Reilly, who hosts a daily podcast at BillOReilly.com, is the author of "Killing England: The Brutal Struggle for American Independence," written with Martin Dugard.
