New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio is “full of malarkey,” and “keeps passing the buck” on disciplining the police officer who is accused of fatally choking Eric Garner in 2014, Garner’s widow said Friday during an appearance on CNN’s “New Day.”
"He's full of malarkey...They just keep passing the buck and it's really annoying," Esaw Garner Snipes told host Alisyn Camerota.
Daniel Pantaleo's career has been in jeopardy since he was caught on video in July 2014 putting Garner, an unarmed black father, in an alleged chokehold.
The incident became a rallying cry for the “Black Lives Matter” movement after cellphone video captured Garner, 43, repeatedly yelling “I can’t breathe!” He was being busted on suspicion of illegally selling loose cigarettes.
NYPD Deputy Commissioner of Trials Rosemarie Maldonado is expected to deliver her non-binding verdict Friday on whether Pantaleo should be fired.
Maldonado oversaw Pantaleo's departmental trial earlier this year, and her verdict is merely a disciplinary recommendation to Police Commissioner James O'Neill.
Garner Snipes on Friday said her family won’t go away until they get justice.
“It’s not going to be pretty. We’re not going to stop. I don’t know what the next step would be legally, I don’t know what the next step would be civilly, I just know there’s going to be a next step. We’re going to figure out something.”
