Former President Bill Clinton has collected $104.9 million in speaking fees since he left the White House.
From 2001 until January 2013, the period covering when Clinton left the White House until former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton left her post at the State Department, the former president gave 542 speeches, totaling $104.9 million,
The Washington Post is reporting.
A majority of his speeches were in the United States, with $56.3 million coming from speeches in other countries, such as China, Japan, Canada and the United Kingdom.
The most Clinton ever made for a speech was in Hong Kong in November 2011 for $750,000.
The former president recently
told NBC News that while he may step down from his role at the Clinton Foundation if Hillary Clinton is elected, he won't stop giving paid speeches.
"I gotta pay our bills," he said, "and I also give a lot of it to the foundation every year."
He also said that the 11 speeches he gave for at least $500,000 each while Hillary Clinton was secretary of state were justified, adding that he also turned a lot down.
The Clintons have come under fire for donations the Clinton Foundation has received from foreign governments while Hillary Clinton, who is now running for president, was at the State Department.
Bill Clinton told NBC News that there isn't "anything sinister in trying to get wealthy people in countries that are seriously involved in development to spend their money wisely in a way that helps poor people."
